A note from our “summer” student

A little late, but here I am! My name is Jace, and I am a transgender man. If you ask Julie or Leigh at the office they’ll tell you my nickname there has become the Trans Ambassador, due to my knowledge of gender-affirming gear, where to find it, and how to make some of your own. I have been teaching Julie about different websites to get the gear from and different types of gear long before she decided to hire me for her winter student placement.

I am pro-choice, sex-positive, and honestly, I basically just say “Your body your choice, as long as it’s not hurting you or those around you.” I am very happy to get a position at the Sexual Health Centre and have already learned so much about what exactly it is that we do.

I am very proud to accept the opportunity to learn about sexual health and to help Julie out with the Transformation Closet. If you come into the centre on a Tuesday or a Thursday you’ll probably see me just working away in my little office space, or I’ll be more than happy to answer any questions you have as best I can, but depending on the topic Julie may be the better one to ask. Anything related to the Transformation Closet or the therapeutic toys section seems to be what I am best at answering questions about, and I am a very open person. If you’re looking for your first piece of gender-affirming gear or looking for advice on how to support someone you know who is trans I will talk your ears off. Julie is fully equipped to answer any of the questions as well, but I definitely have more personal experience with some of the gear.

I absolutely love my job and I will definitely be sad when my placement ends, however, Julie is giving me lots of resources to take with me on my life journey!
